About seventy kilometres north of Stockholm the City of Uppsala offers us an amazing culture heritage and beautiful sightseeing places.

It's Cathedral is one of the biggest in Northern Europe, and the tallest one is Scandinavia, with 118.7 meters. It dates from the 13th century and it was used for the coronation of the Kings of Sweden until the end of the 17th century. This worship monument is also the last resting place of many Swedish important figures like the first Lutheran archbishop or Dag Hammarskjöld, former Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Bicycles are a must all over Sweden, but Uppsala, hast the most Bicycles per inhabitant of the country. It is easy to rent one, and you can visit the whole city on the steering wheel of it.

In this amazing town we can see remains the Vikings left us just by the great Cathedral. On a small garden just behind it there is a group of stones engraved by Vikings, remains of the first Centuries of the last Millennium, that every Viking fanatic should visit in his life!

The Countryside

If prefer smaller places, you can just take the car or the bus and head to the little village of Forsmark, near the small town of Östhammar.

This small village was entirely bought by the company that operates the Nuclear power Plant just near the village.

Although at first one can think this may not be a good idea, actually the thing works out preety good, the company renews all the old houses and the small palaces making us feet like we are in a Nordic village in the middle of 16th century.

This nice village is home of a very deep and long blacksmithing culture, and nowadays there are various places and souvenirs you can experience about this matter. View here.

It is also possible to visit the power plant and the wild life for free, just take the bus excursion near the lake, and you have one hour under the tunnels of the power plant and bird whatching various species by the sea!

I hope this hub was useful for you, and that you enjoy the pictures I took myself when I visited this places!
